About the tour:
This tour of the saltpans of Maras and the Inca agricultural terraces of Moray is an ideal complement to your excursion to Machu Picchu. You will experience scenery including snowcapped mountains, fields of Andean crops, and villages filled with local colors and traditions.
Trip plan
- 7:00 am: Pick-up from your hotel.
- 9:30 am: Guided tour to the Maras saltpans.
- 10:30 am: Guided tour to the agricultural interpretation center of Moray, and visit to the Awanas textile center in the community of Chinchero.
- 12:30 pm: Return drive to the city of Cusco.
- Pick-up from hotel.
- Duration: Half day.

We will pick you up from your hotel at 8:00 am in our tourist bus to start our tour: Maras is located west of Cusco, at 3300 meters above sea level. From here, there are fine views of the Urubamba mountain range and the snowcapped peaks of Mount Veronica (5682 meters) and Mount Chicón (5530 meters). Maras was settled by Inca nobles when they lost their palaces in Cusco, and were forced out of the city. This small village has an adobe church typical of local religious architecture. The interior of the church is adorned with Cusco School religious paintings.
